BITSAT is an entrance test for getting admission into one of the campuses of the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology and Science(BITS Pilani).BITS has campuses at Pilani,Goa and in Dubai.Starting this year BITS is also taking students into its newly established BITS Hyderabad Campus.Around 1,50,000 students are going to take BITSAT 2010 and only 2000(<2%) of them are going to be selected.

BITSAT is the first complete online based admission procedure for any undergraduate course.These online tests are conducted at seventeen centers in India, during the months of May and June every year.


More about Bitsat

For BITS Pilani merit is the sole criterion and the aspiring candidates are required to have a minimum aggregate of 80% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in the 12th examination with at least 60% marks in each of the subjects. Board toppers can apply for direct admissions also.

BITSAT is a 3 hour duration test offered to candidates on computers at dedicated computer centres at different cities spread across India. The test has objective type (multiple choice) questions only.

To further the cause of women education, BITS Pilani has shown a special gesture by making the BITSAT application fee for girl candidates as Rs 500/- only instead of Rs 1000/-. In addition, the Institute will try its best to accommodate all girl candidates at their first preference of test centre for appearing in BITSAT.



Question paper pattern

Bitsat is a 3 hours examination consisting of 150 questions which includes 45 from Mathematics,40 from Physics,40 from Chemistry and 25 from English and Logical Reasoning.

Only people from Maths background ie. Physics Maths Chemistry are eligible to write BITSAT - 2009

Dual Degree more info

Is dual worth the shot???

Ya according to me it is..letz check out some advantage we have

1) You get 2 degrees in 5 years

2) The M.Sc degree course are in no way related to the B.E. courses(except for few common coourses) . so you get 2 degrees at end of 5 years..so you can potray urself as a Masters in Science or and engineer or even both

3)As you have two degrees it gives lots of options for higher studies...consider Bio with Mech dual...see how many reasearch option one has..and it is very easy to get admissions in top colleges

4)Dualites most of the time get better pay then normal engineering students.

5)Your one year internships is counted as experience by most of the companies...so if you work there and get placed there you will start of with a great pay package

6)And finally you dont have to waste that final year in college...you can work in a company doin your PS-2(something like internship) and earn stipends

DIsadvantages:

1)Most of the times the sciences degree do not help in your engineering...So itz upto you to explore those fields

2)Some companies do not allow dualites for placements(only few)

3) You have to complete 2 degrees in 5 years so itz sometimes hectic

4)You have a placement option of only one week(coz you will be doing your intern) while engineering group people stay on the campus complete sem for their placements...many dualites do a thesis on campus rather than intern so that they can stay for placements the whole sem..also many dualites get their jobs during their internship(PS-2)

Dual degrees- BITS Pilani vs IIT's etc

People are often confused that duals in Bits Pilani are same as duals in other engineering colleges. There is hell amount of difference.

To start of the duals degrees are mostly M.Sc(Hons) degrees...i.e. they are science degrees and are not engineering dual degrees like M.Tech.

Secondly , after the completion of your first year you will be given a dual degree in an engineering stream depending on your performance.For example if a guy joins in M.Sc.(Hons) Mathematics and after first year he cant get any dual in a engineering stream like EEE,EIE,CSE i mean any branch..

The whole point is a Science degree with an Engineering degree....The thing being the Science and engineering degrees are themselef recognised and the dual engineering degree is in no way different from the normal engineering degree.

Thirdly u dont waste an extra year(5 year)...You actually work in a company,doing ur internships with a stipend.

Apart from that you can do an engineering dual i.e. one engineering dual with another.There are people in the campus who are doing Computer science with EEE dual and they pass out in 5 years...opens up many gates for higher studies

There is an error in the "bitsexam online test series ." After completing the test we are unable to see our score.A Bloody "click here" tag comes but of no use.Also there are no solutions in the site for those papers.So the papers are of no use. kindly update the site immediately as our papers iare approaching nearer.

Hi.i am appearing 4 bitsat this year.but i doubt an aggregate of 80 in maths physics and chemistry.will the aggregate be lowered coz the papers this year wer a bit tougher.

Hi Shraddha...i think as u can see The Ruler is currently offline since quite a long time. But i would like to help you as much as i can...the BITSAT is generally conducted during a span of nearly one month. In 2008 it was from 9th May to 12th june. For this year i think it is going to be approximately the same...about the form ...its advertisement is not yet out but it will be ...by third week of december and u can apply it online by visiting the official website WWW.BITSADMISSION.COM ....on that very website u will be able to get the exact shedule of the exam. the procedure for filling the form is quite easy and u'll get to know abt it once u visit the website...best of luck...!!!

I mean i will be fron the second batch. 1st batch shall have to face some problems. Will placements improve in 1 year ??

Thank you for having a family member in Defence service.

You need to get your maths right. There are 2 things. If one drops and repeats, chance of getting into IITs is not that high. Second, doing dual is equal to doing drop and doing engineering. (Both take 5 years)

So the question is, is bits good or not. I think enough is already explained about that.

What are you studying now and where? Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

Anybody with>260 score has got good basics in their control, so just polish them. After all it is just eight months aways all exams not even one year. Please do not waste time on Net. It will not help you. Win and lost are in mind and that is within you. Why you search elsewhere."

thanks dear for your support.today also i got another proof of my luck .still on waiting.anyway , your words of support are really sweet. but you know pragyan, not every body can possess a strong mind like you. may be it is due to the fact that you come from a defence family. i have special respect for them. you know i am so crazy about the 26th jan programme in delhi, i just don't get up till the end. when our president gives the differrent medals posthumously. tears roll down my eyes. sorry for being a little more senti. i wish your dad a safe service.

but you know i am also a humanbeing. when everyone around is getting through, i really feel bad for my incapability. may be god has kept something better for me somewhere. god being the almighty, can He not show me any ray of hope now? that hurts me. dropping one year, i haven't decided yet. but yes if i do i will definitely crack iit and dce next year.i will put 100% effort.

My loving sister, Just one error of not filling duals can not certify that U lost everything in life. Remember always that whatever reported...may not be correct as all glittering are not Gold. Scoring 261 itself certifies that your basiscs are really strong and this year,people says that difficulty level of exam was also high. If you are so fond of premier institutes and not deposited money to IP, nothing wrong in giving one more year for a better life. Instead of dual conssuming 5 years, drop n prepare well to get the best next time and if so,then also You are spending only five years. Remember always"when you feel that god is rubbing you hard and hard against the rock, do not think that he is pulverising you but he is just polishing a GEM nearer to DIMOND". I was pushed by my Dear MOM to Kota for coaching n my father is posted at border(I rarely see him due to his freequent transfer). Just last day, MOM send coaching fees(may be by selling ornaments) but today i will deposit them in bank and I will remain here, study hard without joining coaching to show to the world that I also can penetrate any hard layer. people in this page said that I am more matured than my age.TRUE. Here at Kota lot of guys did not join BITS inspite of very very good score and some elders are saying that M.Sc(IT) is not engineering but equivalent to diploma n anyway...ITs are going to crash in another 15 years. So, why you are so nervous n desparate, seek help from God only. You can not get those items which is not earmarked for you by God in your life and nobody can snatch the item from you if it is given by God. The best example is: daily my father is loosing his friends in border clash but still he is alive only because God protects him. People may harm you but God will never. So accept his decision, may be in your favour or may not be but in both conditions he will be with you. OK

Hi !! brother. i have just noticed your blog. you know my parents appreciated a lot about the way you answer each one.since this is my first post, may be i will take a little more time of yours, introducing myself and giving my details. see, i appeared for bitsat this year and got horrible 260.let me admit my mistake first, i was totally unaware of bits m.sc. courses,so applied for all b.e. courses in all three campuses and also added m.sc(tech)info.sys. in all three campuses only.no m.sc , no dual etc..i am placed still on waiting list. is there any hope for me? if my luck favours(though i know it never does)and get m.sc(tech)info sys,can i take the course and lock my choice so that sliding does not take place, because my second last preference was civil,which i don't like at all.how is the course m.sc(tech), tougher than b.e? please please bhaiya, help me. thank you so much.

@ajay I think you can get 2 seperate degrees or if you wish one single degree...But I am not 100% confident of this fact

in a dual degree whether the dual degree is provided in one single degree mentioning main degree m.sc(hons) and second degree b.e(hons)?

or

two sepsrste degrees are provided i.e one for m.sc(hons) and second for b.e(hons)

@ sahil Which campus are you talking abt

M.Sc.INformation Systems is equivalent to IT in other colleges except that it is not an engineering degree...future prospects are very good but the prob being many people feel and engineering degree is better though it doesnt make any differnce for higher studies...Infact it helps you a lot :)

Hi bhaiya! Thanx for ur guidance & cooperation. i have got EEE Hyd at 301. Above are EEE Goa,CSE Hyd and CSE Goa. Will i get any of them or cutoffs will be static for BE degreesI think EEE Goa and CSE Hyd are both at 305 & 306 respectively. Will CSE HYd cutoff fall as everyone will be reporting at Hyd campus on 8th?
